  1. yes you will but there are also other alternatives such as tranferring all the data on your drive to the new one.

Put the cd in RIGHT AWAY

absolutely, very reliable site and you can find anything there....never be afraid to use it.

  2. 1. No. XP and Vista should both natively install HDD drivers for you without the need for a CD.

    2. You should go to My Computer, right-click on the drive and choose Format, select the NTFS format, then click the quick format box. Then, the drive will be ready for use.

    3. Absolutely. I am writing this answer from a PC built 100 percent from Newegg parts; over $1,200 of them. Hands-down, newegg is best on price and service.

  3. 3. Yes you can trust them. I bought items from them once.

    1. If you buy new hard drive, you dont really need to install an OS (xp/vista) on that drive. If you already have an OS running on your PC, you can just set the new hard drive to be a slave so that you can browse it as a DRIVE (like C:/D:/E:) when you enter your windows.

    2. However, if you want to install a new OS in your new hard drive, its easy. These are the safe steps:

    a. Remove the old drive first so that you wont get any problem with the drive ordering.

    b. Have a bootable CD/DVD for XP/Vista.

    c. Configure you BIOS to boot first on CD/DVD Drive. (this is sometimes already set as default)

    d. Put the bootable CD/DVD inside the drive as soon as the computer starts so that it will boot on the CD/DVD Drive first rather than your hard drive.

    e. Follow the steps on the installation process.

    That's all! Cheers!

  4. 1. yes, or, look into linux, ubuntu, fedora, or mandriva (all free)

    2. put it in right away

    3. I have. and they are reputable

Edit: I guess I missunderstood, are you planning for the new hard drive to be IN ADDITION to your current one? Then I was wrong about #1, and #2. I though you meant it was a replacement.

Oh and I just thought of..If you are replacing your old drive...look into "ghosting", there is free software out there that will do it for you. Basically you will have to plug in the new hard drive, and it will "mirror" everything to the new one, as though you never switched anything. except you'll be on a new hdd

  5. If you already have a copy of Windows you should be able to use it no problem, there isn't any need to buy a new copy simply because you got a new hard drive.

If you install the new hard drive and remove the old one, your computer will not boot at all, so you will need to insert the Windows install CD and boot from that instead. It will then install itself to your new hard drive.

Yes, you can trust newegg.com. They are, in my opinion, one of the best computer hardware websites available. They are extremely fast (I usually get my items in three days, including the day I bought it), reliable, and have an excellent return policy.
