Three Denver Broncos players suspended for illegal substance use - NFL News
Three players from the Denver Broncos have been suspended by the National Football League (NFL) for testing positive for illegal substances on Friday.
The NFL suspended linebacker D.J Williams, defensive tackle Ryan McBean and tight end Virgil Green without pay with both Williams and McBean missing out on the first six games of the upcoming season while Green will miss the first four.
The issue however, has raised serious questions over the validity of the tests since the league’s collector who took samples from all three players has been fired by the NFL for allegedly tampering with the players’ urine samples.
Even with the firing the suspension stands and that aspect has led D.J Williams and Ryan McBean to consider suing the league for the unjust treatment being meted out to them.
Williams released his statement over the affair and called into question the manner in which his case has been handled.
"We proved -- conclusively -- at the NFL hearing on this matter that the NFL and its specimen collector wholly failed in their duties to safeguard and process my specimen properly,"
Adding further the linebacker said.
“The hearing officer, an NFL executive, ignored the NFL's own policy, engaged in inappropriate communications with top NFL officials about this matter without my knowledge or approval, corrupted the system, ignored that my specimen had been compromised,
and now has subjected me to humiliation as well as suspension."
According to sources Williams was suspended since his sample was found to contain “in-human” urine which the player vehemently denies.
This is the first time in the linebacker’s eight-year career that he has been found guilty of using illegal performance enhancers.
Green on the other hand used medication without prior approval from the NFL and he now has taken the required permission from the league to use the medicine for treating his Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The Broncos have refused to comment on the situation since the investigation is still confidential but said that they are monitoring the developments closely.
Williams’ allegations may embroil the NFL in another controversy and it would be better to retake the linebacker’s sample and base a decision on the new test results.
