Three Fly Halves strategy for Brumbies – Rugby news
When was the last time when you have heard or saw a team playing three fly halves in their starting line-up?
Well if you haven’t, then you might witness this strange event happening on rugby field at Carisbrook, Dunedin later today.
ACT Brumbies had just recovered from their massive defeat against the Crusaders which they lost 52 – 10 and their lost to Waratahs 29 – 22. The two-time champions were looking up for an improved show during Super XV and they started well against the Chiefs.
However, now with only a solitary win out of the five games they have played, Brumbies are looking forward to win to keep their chances alive in Super XV when they take on the Highlanders.
Brumbies captain Matt Giteau has hinted using the three fly halves strategy to change the Highlanders original game plan. Three fly halves strategy would result in Brumbies frequently interchanging their full back, fly half and inside center positions during
the game.
The only thing going behind the Brumbies when they’ll be taking on the Highlanders at Invercargill is the fact they have beaten them here. It’s always nice to have some sort of achievement and you’ll be fighting to save that. 13 years ago, Brumbies defeated
the Highlanders 15 – 9 at Invercargill. If for Brumbies the motivation to winning a game to improve their chances to reach the play offs is not enough, then they have may consider their 13 year old record as scared and go all out to maintain that record, if
not improve it.
Alongside Toomua inclusion in the starting XV as full back with Matt Giteau will be playing Fly Half, Brumbies have made several other changes to change their fortunes in Super XV.
For Brumbies tight head Dan palmer has been rested to allow Salesi Ma'afu to get a game, flanker Colby Faingaa has been replaced by Peter Kimlin. Adam Ashley-Cooper has been rotated to his preferred position as winger while Tyrone Smith has replaced Robbie
Coleman on bench and is expected to take the field later in the game.
For highlands, their injured fly half Colin Slade is expected to be in the starting line-up. Slade who has recovered from the broken jaw will be playing his first game of the season.
Although Highlanders will be a difficult opponent to beat, Brumbies with their changed line up and game plan has the potential to change the Highlanders tempo.
