Three Indian players succeed in making a top-five finish in the Indonesian Masters – Golf News
Indians Gaganjeet Bhullar, Shiv Kapur and Anirban Lahiri finished in the top-five of the CIMB NIAGA Indonesian Masters at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
Kapur got off to a solid start, as he carded a birdie on the very first hole that he played. Thereafter, a bogey and two birdies took him to two-under par through the front nine.
His back-nine performance was even better, as he managed to score a birdie and a spectacular eagle to finish off his round at a five-under par 67.
He tied for the third place along with Bhullar at a 12-under par tournament score. Bhullar’s final round score of a three-under par 69 included a total of four birdies and a bogey.
It was Bhullar’s fourth top-10 finish of the season and he looked pleased with his performance in a country where he earned the first Asian Tour title in 2009.
"Indonesia is one of my favourite destinations. I won my first title here. Obviously when I play here I have a lot of positive memories. I'm quite confident my time to win will come really soon. I went through a slump last year but I guess that's part of
the game and I'm over it," Bhullar said.
Meanwhile, Lahiri added another good round of a three-under par 69 to his overall score to take the fifth spot on the leaderboard.
Despite the poor start with 74 in the opening round, he made a good comeback in the tournament after scoring 68-66-69 in the final three rounds.
According to him, he made some silly mistakes on the opening day that took him over-par for the round.
However, he did not lose his confidence and continued playing his natural game that benefited him in the end.
In the meantime, the defending champion Lee Westwood succeeded in winning back-to-back Indonesian Masters title with a tournament score of 16-under par.
Westwood displayed a tiring performance on the final day of the event, as he carded two-over par 74. Yet, his third-round lead of eight strokes was enough to earn him the 38th victory of his career.
