Three Lions predicted starting line-up (Part 3)
Steven Gerrard, Centre-Midfield (Captain)
Steven Gerrard plays as a centre midfielder and one of the most famous players in the English leagues. The thirty year old player is the Three lions captain and has been the Liverpool captain since 2003.
Steven Gerrard has played his entire career at Anfield and never left for another club. He is thirty years old and has scored nineteen goals in his eighty five international appearances.
Just like Liverpool Gerrard’s position is set in the national team and opposing to what critics say about him, he is currently playing one of the best seasons of his career. He single-handedly forced the English victory in their last match against Hungary and turned the whole game around from a losing position to a win.
Frank Lampard is currently injured and in his absence Steven Gerrard will definitely be playing his favourite position. He will line up and play next to Gareth Berry and this is the player Gerrard made his international debut with while playing under Kevin Keegan.
Adam Johnson, Left-Midfield
This twenty three year old plays as a midfielder and is fairly new to international football as this will be his third international appearance. He is part of Fabio Capello’s plan in giving the youth a chance in the national team.
Adam Johnson is yet to score a goal and he narrowly missed the chance of being a part of the World Cup squad.
Capello is actually regretting not adding Johnson’s name in the World Cup squad as this would be the second consecutive English match where Johnson’s name was in the starting eleven and this kid is quickly proving his worth to the Italian.
Johnson was unexpectedly over looked for Manchester City’s first game of the season but after that Adam Johnson has started every Premier League match for them and is still gleaming since his January transfer.
Wayne Rooney, Forward
Wayne Rooney has sixty five international appearances and has scored twenty five goals for the Three Lions. This twenty four year old sadly broke his goal duck from the nets in the match against West Ham and the English fans are looking forward to him continuing this streak and shining form for the country.
Rooney plays as a forward for Manchester United. He also top scored for the Three Lions in the World Cup and is expected to do so again.
Jermain Defoe, Forward
The last player on the list is the forward that everyone loves, the twenty seven year old Jermain Defoe.
The player has forty three international appearances and has scored a total of twelve goals in his international career.
He is actually looking for a new partner as his former partner Emile Heskey retired from his international career and his recent play in South Africa suggested that it was long overdue.
Defoe has actually put off surgery so that he is available for these matches and feels that his winning goal in the last match England played in the World Cup group stage should have enough weight in it that should secure a spot for him in the team.
