Three Manchester United stars, Dimitar Berbatov, Federico Macheda and Anderson headed for exit door?
Three Manchester United stars could be on their way out of Old Trafford if rumours are to be believed. The back pages of tabloids are filled with juicy news as the transfer window opens in just over a month. United players have
featured highly in newspaper gossip, as Sir Alex Ferguson look to freshen up squad in winter.
Dimitar Berbatov is the first player to be linked with a move away; he had a phenomenon start to the season and scored a hat-trick against Liverpool – but his overall lack of form has labelled him the title of “Berbaflop”, with
one United insider saying as back as January: “… the biggest under-performer was Berbatov. People say he’s got a great touch, and that isn’t in doubt, but this game is also about hunger and work rate.
“To put it bluntly, Berbatov doesn’t run around enough for this United team – and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the people that matter most.”
According to The Daily Mirror, it is Italian giants Juventus that want the former Tottenham hit man, who is currently having an “erratic” season.
Juventus, however, do not just want Berbatov; they also want his Italian teammate Federico Macheda; this time that comes from Talksport and not one of your daily tabloids. Juventus are tracking Macheda to take him on loan with
an option of a permanent deal in the summers.
The rumour mill rumbles on as InsideFutbol claim that Greek outfit Panathinaikos wants United Brazilian midfielder Anderson. Anderson has failed to impress after his ₤18 million transfer from Portuguese side Porto. He is out injured
and hasn’t featured for United this season but is expected to be fit soon.
Most significantly, no price is quoted for all three but those three can hardly raise a handsome amount with clubs looking for a bargain in the winter transfer window. Berbatov can manage to raise some bucks with his pedigree,
but nowhere near the (British) record ₤30 million they paid the Spurs for his services.
Well known sources close to Sir Alex Ferguson reveal that he is probably looking to sell those three without really affecting his first-team and in fact by selling them he will raise enough funds to be able to bring in at least
one top quality player.
One thing is for sure: there will be some movement at Old Trafford that will see some players discarded. How much is anyone’s guess, but it is difficult to see the squad staying as it is until the summer.
