Three New England Patriots’ players suffer from illness – NFL News Update
As the New England Patriots gear up to battle in Super Bowl the coming Monday, they are faced with illness to three of their players that could possibly seriously affect their capabilities.
Patriots’ Left tackle, Matt Light missed the practice on Monday and was also absent on Tuesday from media day. So was Right tackle, Sebastian Vollmer who stayed away due to an illness too.
Patriots’ head coach, Bill Belichick said they were sick while another player, linebacker Jerod Mayo was present on the occasion but was suffering from a cold.
The Patriots would be facing the New York Giants in Super Bowl within a few days and if the players are unable to recover in time, it could cause possible problems for the Patriots.
Light has been playing for the New England Patriots since 2001 and is a very important player having constantly proven to be of considerable help to quarterback, Tom Brady against the opponent’s defensive line.
The Patriots would not be the only one to miss him if he is unable to play in the Super Bowl.
New York Giants’ Defensive end, Osi Umenyiora who earlier on expressed his concerns over Light’s tactics that get sunder his “skin’ would be looking forward to face to him this Monday.
"Matt Light, please get well soon," Umenyiora said, smiling. "I hope to see you on Sunday. You are one of my greatest friends."
On the other hand, Volmer has been missing seven games on account of foot and back injuries.
However, the Patriots’ offensive line coach, Dante Scarnecchia said that Vollmer would be playing in the Super Bowl.
Volmer joined the Patriots in 2009 and this is his third season with the Patriots.
Meanwhile, Patriots’ All-Pro tight end, Rob Gronkowski is also suffering from an injury he sustained while playing against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC title game on Jan. 22.
The game that saw the Patriots rushing to the Super bowl had resulted in Gronkowski developing a high left ankle sprain. Gronkowski was injured towards the end of the third quarter as he took a 23-yard reception.
Gronkowski had been listed as DNP (Did Not Practice) in the Patriots' injury report on Wednesday, January 25.
Gronkowski though was optimistic that he would make it to the Super Bowl.
"I'm improving every day," Gronkowski said. "The only reason it's getting so blown up is because it's the Super Bowl. It's just like any other injury during any other week."
The Patriots are hoping to get all four players back on track before the Super Bowl.
