Three Texans in the next round of the U.S. Women's Amateur
The entry list for the match play stage of the U.S. Women's Amateur has been announced and there is some great news for the Texans’ golf fans. Three players from the Lone Star State will play in the next stage.
The next stage of the tournament is called the round of 64 and will see three players from Texas in action, along with 63 other players. The tournament is being played in the Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.
The first name is Lisa McCloskey. The player belongs to Houston and is considered to be a great amateur golfer. She proved her golf skills in the qualifying stage in an impressive manner.
She finished in the 12th place with a final score of 142. She finished the first round with 72 points. She improved her score by shooting a second round score of 70. She finished two under-par and qualified for the next stage.
The second player is Casey Grice, who comes from College Station. She finished the qualifying round on an even par. She played an average 75 points in the first round.
The second round was where she really shined through the competition. She scored an amazing 69 points to finish the stage with a total score of 144. She was tied for the 17th place.
The final name hails from the city of Victoria. Sarah Beth Davis played a slightly bad game as compared to the above two players. She finished the qualifying stage with a five over-par total that just managed to get her into the next stage.
She ended the first round on 71 points. She played another disappointing round and scored 78 points. This bought her total to 149.
These three players will face the top talent of the amateur golf in the round of 64. This is the first round of the match play stage and will determine the contestants of the next stage.
The current leader of the stage is the South Korean player Hyo-Joo Kim. Kim is leading with just a stroke with the world number one amateur, Lydia Ko, following her closely.
