Three anniversaries attached with the Spanish Open
Spaniards are aiming for the upcoming 100th edition of the Real Seguros Open de Espana, staged by the European Tour, also ready to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
The event is also called the Spanish Open and is scheduled to start from May 3, at the amazing venue of the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, in Seville, Spain.
The tournament was established in 1912 and the golf course was designed by Jose Maria Olazabal.
Olazabal made the course very interesting and appealing, as he used Poa and Bent grass for the greens.
On the fairways, he used 11mm Bermuda grass. Such grass gives less bounce to the ball and makes the game more appealing.
With the 100th anniversary of the Spanish Open and 40th year of the European Tour, another occasion attached with the tournament is the first death anniversary of the famous Spanish golfer, Seve Ballesteros.
This adds an emotional element among the Spanish golfers, hence, they are planning to do their best.
Almost all Spanish professional golfers will tee off on Thursday, with several amateurs in the field. They will be honouring their nation's famous player, Ballesteros, who left them all in 2011, suffering from cancer.
Ballesteros is a five-time major champion. He won 91 professional events in total, out of which, 50 victories were recorded on the European Tour.
He also amazed his fans after winning nine PGA Tour events in his career. After a year, all his followers and lovers are missing his presence on the golf course.
Alvaro Quiros, the 2010 champion of the Spanish Open, is aiming to take back the victory from the defending champion, Thomas Aiken.
Quiros wants to keep the title in his homeland, so that he can celebrate the 100th edition of the event and 40th European Tour anniversary in a better way.
Miguel Angel Jimenez is also in the field and has same plans as Quiros has. Jimenez desires to deliver his best in Spain and defeat all the other international players impressively.
"It's a big week because of everything that is going on and of course we will all have our thoughts about Seve and how we miss him," Jimenez said. But we will have to also try and keep our minds on the tournament and try to do our best to win".
All the players would face tough competition in Spain.
If the Spaniards want to keep the title in their country, they have to put in extra efforts in a four-day event.
