Three day eventing?

Hey there, so I've been doing H/J for a while, and honestly, I'm just getting really tired of the crowd, I'd love to stay in english riding, and I don't want to give up my jumping, so i think three day eventing would be great. So I was just wondering, what is the best way to get into it? I'm having trouble finding a barn, but I'm going to keep looking, and I plan on taking lessons, but what are some other things I can do to get into it? Thanks for any help!

  1. Firstly find a coach who had experience eventing at a high level. karen dixon, heidi woodhead, gill watson to name a few.

it then would be advisable to discuss with your coach the joining of your local riding or pony club. this will give you experience eventing at a low level.

it is important to understand that the smallest three day event is around 1.10, (although there are 2 day pre-novices, although these include roads and tracks) therefore experience at lower levels is essential before even considering entering. Also three day events require qualification (5 novice runs with less than 16 jumping penalties, i believe).

If after you and your coach have decided that you are ready for a three day event, it is advisable that you make the most of the free training available. BE are very generous in providing experience coaches at all 1*'s, these coaches offer course walks which are very helpfull, and should be made the most of.

I hope i can be of help.
