Three homers from Carlos Quentin help Chicago White Sox beat Texas Rangers 8-6 – MLB Update
Rain proved to be a blessing in disguise for the Chicago White Sox as they beat the Texas Rangers 8-6 on Tuesday, May 24.
While the White Sox maintained their hold on the game, Texas did not cease offering more offensive resistance to win the game.
Tuesday’s game began with Derek Holland pitching for the Rangers. Carlos Quentin homered to left to score the first run for the White Sox. However, Texas did not allow the rival team to keep the game under tight control, as Josh Hamilton singled to right
centre to level the score.
Chicago’s Quentin struck a three-run homer in the third inning to pile up the lead to 4-1. Holland gave up two hits in the inning. However, the Rangers kept the flow of game going as Michael Young hit a sacrifice fly to right to make it 4-2 by the end of
the third inning.
Brett Tomko replaced Holland to pitch for Texas in the fifth inning. White Sox Tony Pena, on the other hand, became the subject to a hit in the fifth inning. Rangers’ Elvis Andrus and Michael Young each scored a single in the fifth inning to level the score.
Pena gave up three hits in the inning.
Adam Dunn then homered for a single and Brent Morel singled to left to bring Chicago back in the game. Their respective singles gave the White Sox a 6-4 lead. However, while one team was acquiring an edge, the other was going down as the cycle continued.
The Rangers then brought the lead down to 6-5 in the sixth inning with Mitch Moreland’s single. Yoshinori Tateyama came out to pitch for Texas, as Alex Rios doubled to deep left-centre to score another single, giving a 7-5 lead to Chicago Cubs. Tateyama
gave up two hits in the inning which brought the White Sox into a much better position.
Elvis Andrus scored the seventh run for Rangers in the eighth inning when he hit Matt Thornton’s seemingly vulnerable pitch. However, while that single brought the Rangers close to Chicago, the Sox offence was menacingly poised to take complete dominance
on the game.
Carlos hit the third homer of the game, becoming the fifth major player to hit three homers in last 13 days to bring Chicago Cubs in a safe position. His homer took the score to 8-6 for Cubs.
Sergio Santos pitched a shutout ninth inning to seal Chicago’s 8-6 victory against Texas.
