Three picks for XL (G.R.) Handicap – Dundalk Preview
The high-profile contest of XL (G.R.) Handicap is going to be held at Dundalk racecourse on Friday, March 9. The €6,900 big race of 2m Standard distance will commence at 9:00 (GMT).
There are a dozen of entries for the event. The runners include Salesin, Johnnys Legacy, Korabushka, Paramount, Table Forty Six, Discovery Bay, Long Strand, Gort Na Mona, Marwood, Word For Word, Houdini Bright and Ma Ani.
Ahead of the race, we try here to figure out those three runners who have higher chances to fill top three spots on the result card.
Salesin
The 40-race veteran gelding of Niall Madden has been enjoying great form since April 2011. After bagging a couple of consecutive victories during the month of April, he went on to win another big race in July.
In his last outing on August 21, the nine-year-old dashing horse finished fifth. Salesin is going to run at Dundalk track just for the second time since making his debut in October 2005.
The talented gelding has been out-of-action since August 2011, and he has undergone a lot of schooling during this period.
At the moment, he looks to be at the peak of his momentum which will surely help him thrive in today’s race. Salesin’s chances to finish first are more than 90 percent.
Gort Na Mona
The J. S. Bolger-trained bay filly achieved the first and last triumph of her career on February 3, 2012. Prior to this success, she finished second in a big race during the first month of the calendar year.
The four-year-old novice runner grabbed 6th position in his last outing at Dundalk on March 2. As a whole, she has run for 11 times to date.
The talented filly will show a decent run today. She is supposed to end up with second top spot in the race.
Discovery Bay
Though not won to date but C. F. Swan’s bay gelding has delivered some marvellous performances since making his debut in September 2010. After finishing third in a race on January 20, 2012, he went on to get second spot on February 10.
The young runner grabbed third spot again in his last start on February 24. He ran at Dundalk for all the three times.
Currently, he seems to be in good form. He is likely to finish third in today’s competition.
Conclusion
Except this favourite trio, some of the other runners also possess enough form at the moment. Thus, it is going to be a rip-roaring contest. Let us see who gains what. Good luck to all the runners.
