Three players in contention for the top slot in Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open on LET
No less than three players are tied for the top slot in the opening round of Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open at Golf Gerre Losone, Switzerland. The first round of the third biggest event on Ladies European Tour, in terms of total purse, has almost culminated
with just a handful of players edging towards their final holes. Lydia Hall of Wales, Christel Boeljon of Netherlands, and Melissa Reid of England, are all five-under, 72.
Hall carded five birdies in her bogey-free first round to jump start her bid for the lucrative €78,750 winner’s share. While Boeljon, the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open winner of the year, carded five birdies in her near-perfect round to stay in contention
for the top slot.
Boeljon is also the money leader on the LET and is coming out of a splendid season so far. Reid also had the share of five birdies, two of them coming on the closing holes. Reid is a strong contender for the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open and recently bagged
the Deloitte Ladies Open 2011 at Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Germany’s Caroline Masson remained in contention for the top slot with her five birdies but fell for a bogey on Par-three, seventh to fall one shot behind the leaders. She is now settled for the second place with another four players with their scores of
four-under, 68 for the day. Masson is joined for the second spot by Carly Booth of Scotland, Kaisa Ruuttila of Finland, Australian Rebecca Flood, and Becky Brewerton of Wales.
Brewerton, who took over some of the strongest players in the field in last week’s Tenerife Ladies Match Play title, carded five birdies but stumbled with a bogey on the back nine to call it a day with four-under. Brewerton is having the best times on the
tour and comes in with the confidence of taking over the strong tour veterans like Laura Davies in the Tenerife Match Play title.
Davies had to settle for joint ninth for the day when she shared the leaderboard with some six players with three-under. The 79-time tour winner fell for a bogey on the 13th but will continue to pose a serious threat to the young guns at the top.
She is sharing the spot with Frenchwoman Virginie Lagoutte-Clement, Italian Diana Luna, American Beth Allen, Czech Klara Spilkova, Australian Nikki Garrett and another Frenchwoman Lucie Andre.
