First round of Ricoh’s Women’s British Open is underway at the scenic Carnoustie Golf Club and three players Angela Stanford, Brittany Lincicome and Malene Jorgensen are currently tied for the lead through the first nine holes of the round. The trio is four-under
for the moment with Jorgensen still to complete her front nine.
Stanford is almost through her first round, having tee-ed off early in the morning and has last two holes left to play before she would head off to the clubhouse. She carded four birdies in her front nine but fell in for a bogey at the ninth before making
the turn. Stanford pulled in two more birdies on the back nine and has dropped just one shot so far.
Lincicome started off the day with relative complacence carding just two birdies on the front nine. She shot into contention at the back nine where she pulled in two consecutive birdies and an eagle at par-five, 14th. She is still to tee-off for
the last three holes of the round.
Caroline Hedwall, the Henderson Rookie, opened up her front nine on a sunny morning early at 06.30 a.m. and finished for a three-under, 69 at par-72 Carnoustie Golf Club. She carded six birdies and dropped three shots to settle for a joint fifth for the
moment. Momoka Ueda, the sturdy Japanese player also finished for a 69 dropping just two shots on the difficult Links course.
