Three players tied for the lead for the incomplete second round of South Georgia Classic on Nationwide Tour
Organizers at the Nationwide Tour finally had a sigh of relief as the second day of the South Georgia Classic, presented by First State Bank Trust & Co., received plenty of sunshine and no disruptions caused by the unusual Georgian weather.
The Players from the first round completed their unfinished holes till 2:20 p.m followed by the proceedings of the second round at Nationwide’s longest 7,781, Par-72 Kinderlou Golf Club. 50 players were able to complete their second round 36 holes and the
rest of the round was later extended to the third day due to poor visibility at 8:30 p.m.
Michael Letzig, Mathew Goggin and Jon Mills are currently tied for the lead by the end of the second rounds proceedings on Friday. The three players are six-under and though Letzig has completed his second round, Goggin has yet to start his second lap, which
makes the results more or less ambiguous for the moment. Letzig carded seven birdies for his opening 17 holes but stumbled with a double bogey and a bogey to settle for six-under.
"I'm putting well," said Letzig, "When you're making those putts in builds your momentum. You start to do everything good. It definitely feels good to be rolling the ball well." Letzig is one hole short of completing his first round.
Goggin, winner of the Panama Claro Championship, is barely affected by the delay in tournament proceedings where some of the players have completed their second rounds and some have not.
"You can't get involved on whether we play or how late we're going to play or if you're going to finish," said the three-time Nationwide Tour winner. "I've been around long enough now to just chill out and do what you're told really."
Goggin struggled last year on the tour and was able to make just 13 cuts out of 28. He has been on the tour for nine long years.
Celebrity-Baseball golfer, John Smoltz will start off his second round on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. He fared badly in the first round with his bogey-filled 12-over, 84. Defending champion Ewan Porter is three-under, through 36 holes. 100 players were unable
to finish their second round and will tee off tomorrow for their left over holes.
