Three players who will shine at the Johnnie Walker Championship
It is time for the European Tour to travel to one of the most prestigious events in golf, the Johnnie Walker Championship. The stage for this prestigious event is the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland. This is the same course which is going to hold
the Ryder Cup in the year 2014.
The event is going to start on the 23rd of August and being a four-day event, it is going to end on the 26th of August.
At this stage, the best players are going to fight it out to win the Championship. The players are going to exhibit their best game to impress the spectators.
Many big names of the sporting world are going to feature in this tournament. Last year, the Johnnie Walker Championship 2011 was bagged by the Dane professional golfer Thomas Bjorn. This year the Champion will be looking to defend his title.
Besides Bjorn, there are going to be other players under the spot light for the tournament. The list of players also includes Scotland’s Paul Lawrie and Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello.
All the players are waiting for the Johnnie Walker Championship to start anxiously. The trio has been performing very well throughout the year and has been able to impress everyone with their skills.
This Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles is pretty essential for the players, as after this tournament, the teams for the prestigious Ryder Cup will be announced. All the players will be trying to get in the team.
The latter two have given outstanding performances this year. Each of them has bagged at least one trophy in the European Tour events this season.
They have proved themselves worthy enough to be in the European side for the Ryder Cup 2012.
Currently, only the Scottish professional golfer Paul Lawrie has enough points to be in the European side for the Ryder Cup out of the trio. The other two players are very close to making the team but they still need a few more to make it.
This week will be very crucial as the players will go head to head to fight for each and every spot in the Ryder Cup. None of them can let their concentration deviate from their goal.
They need to only concentrate on their game. This is no time to rest, even a single mistake at this point can make all the difference in the world.
Paul Lawrie in an interview said, “I think I’m almost there, but when you're there is when the team sheet comes out on the Monday after the Johnnie Walker Championship, so I’m looking forward to that”.
Lawrie seems nervous at the moment, he is also of the opinion that a single bad spell could throw a player out of the Ryder Cup.
Cabrera-Bello is hoping that he will be qualifying for this year’s Ryder Cup team of Europe. He said, “It’s looking like the race to get into José’s team will go right down to the wire so I’m getting ready for what will be one of the most important run of
tournaments in my life, culminating at the Johnnie Walker Championship”.
All the players have the same sentiments about the tournament. It is important for the players to perform well in the Johnnie Walker Championship so that they can bring the same momentum in the Ryder Cup.
