Three reasons why Dallas Mavericks should keep Tyson Chandler: NBA Special
The Dallas Mavericks won the last season’s Larry O’Brien trophy after defeating Miami Heat in the 2010-2011 NBA finals. They won the prestigious championship for the first time in the 31 years of their franchise history.
Along with many, Mavericks centre Tyson Chandler also played tremendously and impressed many throughout the 2010-11 season. His game remained consistent in the post season where he averaged 8.0 points, and 9.20 rebounds per game.
However, Chandler is an unrestricted free agent in this offseason. He is very good player and that is the key reason why his free agency is provoking many other teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) to sign him for
their better future. On the other hand, the Dallas Mavericks’ management have also shown a desire to retain him.
Candler came in the Mavericks team in July 2010 when he was traded by the Charlotte Bobcats. He adjusted well with the Mavericks’ playing environment and after years of disappointments, finally lived up to his potential last season.
Chandler is a dream big for a franchise. Down below are the reasons why;
Defense
Without a shadow of doubt, Tyson Chandler is one the strongest defensive players in the league. For a big man, he is extremely quick and that helps him to guard his opponents. In the last season, it was his defense that completely
rattled the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. His dominance in the paint was exceptional and it was him, who gave the assurance to Dirk Nowitzki on the front court.
Rebounding Abilities:
After coming from the Charlotte Bobcats in 2010, Tyson Chandler played with great consistency throughout the regular season and averaged 9.4 rebounds in a total of 74 games. Up against some of the best forwards in the post season,
Chandler maintained his rebounding numbers and averaged 9.20 rebounds per game in a total of 21 playoffs’ games.
Overall also, his career rebounding average is pretty consistent. He has played total 662 games in so far and averaged 8.8 rebounds per game.
Unique Position:
Tyson Chandler plays at centre position, a breed which is fast becoming a rarity in the league. He has always impressed many while playing on this particular position. He is beast on the defense and can also manipulate offensive
screen to taunt the opposition defense. His scoring abilities, although not as good as somebody like Dwight Howard, are still comparable and his inclusion in any team can make a significant impact.
Off course the Mavericks know all about it. Chandler is hugely talented player and the Mavericks should consider him giving another contract. If the Dallas Mavericks failed re-sign Chandler next season, then it is a huge possibility
that their team will not be able to repeat last season’s championship winning performance.
