Three-time Tour de France champion Alberto Contador tested positive for drug clenbuterol
Several athletes have now been tested positive in doping test and the latest name to fall in this category is Spanish Cyclist, Alberto Contador who has won the Tour de France three times in his career.
His suspension came on early hours of Thursday (today) when he failed a dope test. Their have been several allegations on Cycling great Lance Armstrong but he has not tested positive yet. But Contador’s drug scandal is a big controversy too as this scandal
means that it will have direct effect on standings of cycling’s biggest event Tour de France,
The new cycling sensation of Spain has risen after the demise of Armstrong. In the perfect summer for Spain, he rounded of the celebrations by winning his third yellow jersey.
Besides Contador’s achievements, Spain tasted their first World cup triumph in history with Rafael Nadal completing off a career slam. However, it seems those celebrations have turned sour after this latest scandal. He has been tested positive for Clenbutreol,
which is a banned substance under the rules and regulations of cycling but the cycling superstar have completely denied the charges of taking any performance enhancing drugs.
The International Cycling Union (UCI) was quick to react on the issue and have suspended Contador temporarily on first occasion.
The UCI have explained that Clenbuterol was found in a urine sample of the Spanish cyclist which was taken on July 21. Though he is still safe as the charges have not been proven fully against with cycling's ruling body stating that the concentration of
drug found in his sample was very less. Thus, the case will go in further investigation scientifically, as the Cologne Laboratory who has been studying his samples have clearly said that the banned substance was there and no one can deny it. The lab is renowned
for tracing out even the tinniest of particles of the banned drugs.
The amount which has been found is estimated to be 50 picograms, which is four hundred times less than the official amount announced by WADA. However, any chance of being innocent, after the scandal was gone when his Sample B also tested positive immediately.
Alberto Contador is among the best of cyclists who have recorded triumph in Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Tour of Spain. Last year also he was facing the same charge and the same thing has happened again but he has not sit quiet and has already contacted
several experts, who all have hinted that the cyclist may have fell a victim of food contamination.
Contador is expected to give a press conference soon in order to clear himself from the charge allegedly consuming the banned substance. Clenbuterol, helps in boosting strength, such kind of drugs can help you in the energy sapping races of Tour de France,
and the substance might have contributed in Contador’s crown.
Such incidents badly affect the game’s following with fans thinking that all are cheats. The cyclist might be stripped off his recent crown, and it is remain to be seen what time will bring for Alberto Contador.
