Thrilling swims of Marleen Veldhuis and Marco Koch - 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Netherlands’ Marleen Veldhuis and Germany’s Marco Koch impressed the arena in the heats of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series being staged in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from October 7-8. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 50m freestyle
and Men’s 200m breast-stroke heats.
Veldhuis thrashed out her compatriot, Ranomi Kromowidjojo and China’s Junyao Wang by posting a nerve-wrecking time of 24.59 seconds to win the Women’s 50m freestyle heat. Meanwhile, Kromowidjojo earned second position with a time of 24.78 seconds and Wang
settled for third place by posting an impressive time of 25.13 seconds.
Germany’s Dorothea Brandt earned fourth place with a mark of 25.44 seconds, while Hong Kong’s Yu Sze Hang settled for fifth spot with a time of 25.48 seconds. Sweden’s Louise Hansson got sixth position with a mark of 25.97 seconds, whereas, Austria’s Fabienne
Nadarajah earned seventh place with a mark of 26.33 seconds. Finally, United Arab Emirates’ Joanne Van Beek settled for eighth place with a time of 26.94 seconds.
Additionally, Germany’s young athlete, Marco Koch ousted Russia’s s***n Makovich and Syria’s Azad Albarazi by posting a thrilling time of 2 minutes and 06.02 seconds to win the Men’s 200m breaststroke. Makovich got second position with a time of 2 minutes
and 15.55 seconds, while Albarazi settled for third place with a time of 2 minutes and 18.49 seconds.
Nelson Westby of United States took fourth position with a time of 2 minutes and 19.78 seconds, whereas, India’s Jayaprakash Agnishwar settled for fifth place with a time of 2 minutes and 20.80 seconds. In addition, Mohamed Salem Mubarak Al Besher picked
sixth place with a mark of 2 minutes and 22.13 seconds and Singapore’s Aaron Teo settled for seventh place with a mark of 2 minutes and 26.10 seconds.
Moreover, Mohamed Jasim Shafee of United Arab Emirates earned eight place honours by posting a time of 2 minutes and 31.26 seconds. Ahmed Atari of Qatar got ninth position by submitting a mark of 2 minutes and 34.50 seconds. Last, but not the least, United
Arab Emirates’ Khaled Saeed Fahd finished tenth by posting a time of 2 minutes and 47.49 seconds.
The stunning efforts of all the athletes impressed the crowd and the best players of the meets qualified for the final heats.
