  1. If you have TCP or any other antiseptic then you can mix with water and gargle with it.

If you don't then try ginger, boil it in some water and drink it hot, if you don't have ginger put some lemon into the water, or even heat up some lemonade.

  2. If it's a viral infection.  Then it will eventually go away on its own without any treatment.  But if it's a bacterial infection, such as strep throat for example, then home remedies probably won't help.  You need to take antibiotics for that.

I suggest that you avoid drinking and eating cold foods.  Drink hot drinks.  And if your sore throat keeps getting worse over several days.  Then I suggest that you go to a medical doctor for help.

  3. The cause of the sore throat could be the post nasal drip. That is the drainage from your sinuses . Try this as it is the best thing. Gargle 4-6 times a day with about 1 cup of warm water with 1-2 tsps of salt mixed in. That will rinse the bacteria from your throat and likely ease the pain. Then use whatever kind of over the counter pain reliever you prefer, Tylenol, Motrin... buy the store (generic) brands they are exactly the same. With the name brands you are paying for the advertising. Some green tea with honey will help soothe it and take care of some of the pain. I have chronic maxillary sinus problems and take a decongestant (pseudoephedrine HCl) during the day to break up the accumulated junk in my nose and sinuses. Then at night I take an antihistamine to dry the junk up. I keep a bottle of water by my bed and use saline spray to keep my nasal passages moist to make breathing easier. Stay away from milk and other dairy products as they increase mucous production. Drink lots of water. If your throat is really sore go get some Chloraseptic or a similar throat spray to numb your throat. It is a topical analgesic. If symptoms persist you will need to get an antibiotic as after 5 days or so you definitely have either a sinus, or ear infection. Good luck. If unsure go to WebMD and utilize the "symptom checker" tool.
