  1. It's not immature to be afraid of surgery.  It's actually totally normal.I don't know of anyone who can't be anesthetized, in some way.  My sister had this surgery done a few months back.  She's 54 years old.  They used a local anesthetic, when they did hers.  She told me that the injection did hurt, but was tolerable.  She had quite a bit of post-op pain, as do all adults with this surgery. She ws off work for about three weeks.

Normally the IV is inserted prior to being given any anesthetic.  You just have to suck it up.

  2. It's normal to be afraid of the unknown...and there will be pain afterward, but, it will be controllable.  The latest thinking is NO ice cream..clear liquids..broths..kool aid...jello..and popcicles...an least for the first two or three days.

There is no way you will die of starvation if you don't have regular foods for four or five days....you will be able to incorporate puddings and mashed potatoes etc,   after a few days

If they put in an IV after you're asleep,,you won't feel a thing..

Do have it done..the discomfort you'll feel will be a thing of the past before you know it..and you'll wonder why you were hesitant about getting it done.

Good luck.and I'll be thinking of you,,BIG hug, Boopsie

  3. Ok so I'm 18 and I had my tonsils removed yesterday. They asked me which type of anesthesia do i want and I chose the local one. I could not feel anything and I was a good patient and the surgery took only 10 min. I could not talk for 3 hours cuz of the anesthesia but after that I could talk and they gave me some pain killers and I could eat(ice cream, yogurt, banana, juice). The pain is not too big. It feels like you are having a severe tonsillitis.

There i met another girl. She was 22 and she chose the general anesthesia but her recovery took longer and also the surgery. But she is also well.

I told you the pain is not too big. And you can take some pain killer if you fell like it and everything will be ok.

And about the anesthesia I think that the doctors will choose the best one for you...and they will not do the surgery if you are not under anesthesia, so don't worry.

    Everything will be ok.

All my best wishes for you!
