I heard that if your coach throws in the towell that it is a disqualification. I am an amature boxer and lost my last fight because my coach threw in the towell and i dont want a disqualifiction on my record. If its not a disqualification what is it counted as?

  1. a loss

  2. it's a loss..

  3. This is done by the coach, Notifying the ref that your corner has decided not to continue with the fight, it's a matter to protect the boxer from getting hurt, In which it's a loss and No a disqualification.

  4. it counts as a TKO, the towel is to prevent further damage and protect the fighter...

  5. When your coach throws in the towel,he is doing this to protect you and let you fight another day. To many times I have seen coach's not throw in the towel thinking there boxers has a punchers chance of knocking the opponent out. I have more respect for the coach who does throw the towel in than the coach who doesn't. And as far as the decision that would go down as a retirement not disqualification, in Amature boxing

  6. You can also look at throwing in the towel as a way of quitting the fight by the corner's decision. As Jim has mentioned, it goes down as a lost, whether it's viewed as a disqualification or quitting.

  7. It counts as a technical knockout (TKO).  It would only be a disqualification if your coach/trainer actually got in the ring and tried to stop the bout.  A good example of this would be the first fight between Marco Antonio Barrera and Junior Jones.  Barrera was taking a beating, so his trainer jumped into the ring to stop the bout.  It would have been a TKO victory for Jones if they threw in the towel, but since he jumped in the ring, it became a DQ win for Jones.

  8. a disqualification happens when you break the rules. throwing in the towel is not against the rules and therefore would be counted as a loss and not a disqualification.
