My daughter got sick in bed last night and threw up. While I dealt with my daughter and got her cleaned up, my husband cleaned up the bed. He fabreezed it heavily, but I am not sure he really cleaned the area for the liquid, just the solid. Anyways, 12 hours later, it STILL smells like sour milk and throw up. What can I do to get rid of this smell in her bed?

Thanks!

  1. The soda should work or put salt on it to soak up the wet.  You could also lay the mattress out in the sun, that always seems to help.

  2. Take Dreft laundry detergent (detergent for babies) and make a solution with it. Use warm water and a rag and scrub the mattress. Rinse the rag and use the rinsed out rag to wash out the detergent. Repeat as necessary. Dreft has enzymes in it to break down proteins and bacteria that cause odors and stains. It would probably be your best bet for both the mattress and the bedding and her pjs. Good luck! I hate dealing with throw up!!!!

  3. Vinegar... Soak a rag or towel with it and just let it sit for awhile, air the room out as best you can and the smell will dissipate

    Best of luck

  4. Shake out  a box of baking soda, let it sit for an hour or so and then vacuum. That should absorb most of the residual odor.
