Throwing A Party HELP!?

Ok, so I am having a party and the theme is Hollywood. The people are going to be dressed in like Hollywood dresses (only shorter) I am going to use glass plates, real silverware, and cloth napkins. What else should I do to decorate (it will be outside only)?

I was thinking of doing a red carpet but I don't know where to find one that is cheap.

Also, what food should I serve? I am going to have a salad, and hamburgers and hotdogs, but what else? I don't want to have people just having that because I want to have the food in courses. Thanks in advance! (also the party is in 5 days!)

For the red carpet, you can just get some red fabric and put that down as the red carpet.  If you have a JoAnn's fabric store, go there and get any red fabric you like and get the length of your walkway and just use that.  You don't have to have anything fancy! Use anything red!

For food, I LOVE that you're doing foods that you like!  You can also do salads being that you want to do food in courses.  Make the first course the salad, it can be a green salad with carrots, tomatos, onions, olives, cucumbers, whatever you like!  Then you can do the burgers and hot dogs and have the side dishes with them, things like baked beans, fries, etc.  You can also do macorini salad and potato salad, whatever YOU like! That's what matters!

IF you want to do appetizers, you can do some finger foods, things like the pizza bagel bites, (don't do franks in blankets being you have hot dogs), you can do chips and dips, etc.  that can also end up being your first course and then your salad as the second course and then the burgers and hot dogs as the main course.

For the next course, make a simple fruit salad, (this would be before dessert).  Get some fruit, cut it up, sprinkle some lemon juice on there, you won't taste it, but it WILL keep the fruit from turning brown!  NO ONE wants brown fruit, and the lemon will stop that from happening, just after you make the salad, sprinkle some lemon on it, then toss and sprinkle some more, then refigerate until you're ready to serve!  Fruit salad is VERY easy to make and you can make it the day before!  As long as you use the lemon juice on it, you can make it ahead of time.  Some fruits you can use are:

Watermelon

Plums

Peaches, regular and white

Grapes, red and/or green

Pineapple

Melons

blueberries

Strawberries

Pears

Canteloupe

Use whatever fruits you like and cut them into bite size pieces, everything but the blueberries!  Then do the lemon and you can serve this after the dinner.

Then you can do dessert, whatever you're going to have.  You can set up an ice cream bar and have everyone make their own sundaes.  Get chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream with some toppings. Sprinkles, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and marachino cherries.  You can get the plastic sundae glasses at the dollar store or the waffle cone bowls at the grocery store.

You can also do a trifle and just break up some brownies or chocolate cake, whipped cream and chocolate pudding and pile that into a clear class bowl.  Just layer it.  Do the brownies/chocolate cake, then some pudding and then some more cake and then whipped cream or the whipped cream after the pudding, whatever YOU like!

You can do the same thing with strawberry shortcakes.  You can even do these desserts in individual wine glasses.  

You do NOT have to make any of these from scratch if you don't have time, go out and buy the chocolate pudding already made, and the cake or brownies and pile them up and you can buy Redi-Whip or whatever whipped cream you like.  Same with the strawberry shortcake.  Go buy some angel food cake, some strawberries and whipped cream and cut up the cake and berries and layer everything.  

You can do both of these and layer them in wine glasses and serve them as dessert for a nice presentation in the wine glasses, just make sure to top them with whipped cream!  You can also make these ahead of time and refigerate and then put them on a tray and let people choose the one they want when you serve them!  They'll be wowed by them when they see them!  

You can even go to the dollar store and get plastic wine glasses to serve them in if you don't have enough of your own or don't want to use your own.

You can also set up a white sheet as a backdrop for you and your friends to take pictures!  Get some props like boas, hats, anything fun and even silly and ask your friends to bring some and then you and your friends will have a picture area and have fun taking pictures with each other and the props, and you'll have great pictures!

You can put up some balloons in black and silver around the party area to add to the festive mood.  Hollywood parties DO have balloons! They always add to the party mood!  You can cluster them into corners of the party area.

If the party's going into the evening and night, hang some clear, stringed, Christmas lights.  They'll add to the party mood and ambiance of the party and look really nice and like twinkling lights during the party when the sun goes down.  Instead of having blaring overhead lights that attract every bug, you'll have the stringed lights that add to the party atmosphere.

If you really want to serve other foods, you can serve grilled chicken, pasta, and that should be ok.  You can make sausage, peppers, and onions.  You can make more side dishes, but I think you should be ok.

you should have ballots for guests to vote for winners in certain categories like- biggest drama queen and most studious student...stuff like that! have some type of podium set up to announce the winners- find some type of trophy or prize to award the winners.

for a red carpet you can go to any party supply store and they have these rolls of isle runners in all different types of colors. only thing is they are plastic and if you put it on grass girls heels will dig through it...so maybe just leave it for the walkway going up to the house or on your backyard sidewalk.

how about making a paper or cardboard Hollywood sign with the hill top behind it- you can have pictures taken in front of it too. how about getting some cardboard cutouts of celebrities to have around the yard. Hang up a bunch of Christmas lights around the yard for a real glitzy sparklie look- borrow some from family or neighbors if you don't have enough- more the better! you could make up a celebrity trivia game to play...or play a game of charades where you make up celebrity/Hollywood clues to act out.

for food you can start off with some type of appetizers...maybe jalapeno poppers or breaded mushrooms..you can just have these out on platters as your party starts. then do the sit down courses with soup or salad and bread...then hot dogs or burgers and some type of side dish like fries or pasta salad...then just do your dessert.
