My husband is getting ready to graduate and would like a party. However, we are broke! Any tips on throwing a nice party without looking cheap? And I will give 10 points to the best answer.

  1. Make your own food - there are plenty of easy but afforable ways to go, you can make sandwhiches, burgers, hot dogs, or even a taco bar ( this is what we did last year and was way cheaper then we thought!)

Are all the cheesy decorations really needed?  Buy a few balloons, table clothes and maybe 1 sign and your good.  Try looking at the local fabirc store, you may be able to find some fabric you could use as table cloths on clearance....and that would look much nicer then the party store plastic ones.

You can always make it BYOB too.

  2. get a poster board and have all the guests sign it, have everyone byob(bring your own beer)or instead of gifts ask everyone to bring a bottle of wine or beer, make a collage of pictures of him for decorations, food is easy cheese balls are cheap to make and go far so are dips/chips

  3. Have it at home.  Buy bulk hamburgers and hot dogs.  Ask your close friends to bring a side dish.  Bake a cake yourself.

Don't know what your crowd drinks but just buy beer and wine and water for the non drinkers.

Make your own decorations in the school colors.

If you have time, buy a few things each week so you don't get hit all at once with the entire cost.

Good luck and congratulations to your husband.
