  1. At a party I went to there was a fun tasting contest. There were the critic's descriptions of each wine (fruity with notes of oak and cinnamon and a cherry finish, etc...) and then we tasted each one and tried to match it up with the description. It was a really interesting way to learn about different wines, and also funny because the descriptions were so pretentious. You can decide whether you want it to be a serious tasting party or something more fun and informal.

I'd suggest avoiding any foods that are acidic (citrus, salad dressing etc.) or highly seasoned (Mexican, Thai etc). Crackers and bread are a good choice as are most fruits. Cheeses can be as creative as you like- brie, muenster, havarti, goat cheese, and Asiago, and maybe a bleu cheese if you're daring. Any good wine shop should have several cheese selections.

  2. Yes ask them to bring their own drink, also you provide 4 or 5 bottles with being the host.

Food suggestions,i would have cheese, smoked applewood, cheddar, stuff like that, ritz crackers, with some apples and grapes (these fruits go gr8 with cheese) also ask some ppl to bring a cd of their choice,i hate going to a party and theres the same genre music on constantly

  3. More wine, less cheese.
