Question:

Throwing up after cross country practice?

i just joined cross country. normally i only run 3 times a week and not in a row but practice is every weekday. after practice on thursday, i went home and puked. i was really thirsty while running, so i don't know if i was dehydrated, or maybe just working myself too hard, or maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was my time of month. does anyone know what the cause could have been or how to prevent it?

thanks.

  1. Some people are pukers. A guy on my cross country team puked after everytime he ran. Why he kept on with the whole running thing, I don't know.

  2. actually it is not bad it is most likely that your body was trying to lighten the load.

  3. Probably a combination of everything. Its not that uncommon.

Pushing yourself too hard can make you vomit, especially if your dehydrated, and with it being your "woman time" aswell I dont expect that helped either.

If it was hot that would have contributed aswell.

Did you cool down properly ie walking for a few minutes to cool off? Abruptly ending an exercise session can cause nausea.

Be sure to drink loads of water in future and dont work yourself too hard, and make sure you cool off properly. And dont eat too much before exercise either.

  4. It sounds like you were dehydrated. I've gotten sick during a race while reaching my anaerobic threshhold but I consider it normal. It doesn't happen very often and doesn't last long.

  5. My coach would say "great job!". Not saying that puking is a good thing and you shouldnt try to do it cuz it totally sucks, but your body probably isnt used to the amount of work that you are putting it under. But in a way its a good thing means that your working hard and you will get used to it just keep it up and your practice wont seem as hard. There are varsity runners that puke on my team because they push it, so just keep it up and you'll look back and think how easy it is for you now. Good Luck.

  6. Usually working yourself to hard on a full tummy, water definatly would have help your body out a bit. Im in the army and we run untill we puke, it just happends i guess, your body freeks out and does some strange things under that king of pressure, iv seen ppl loose control of ther bowl after hitting the 70k mark, your body just starts shutting down

  7. I'd say it was a combination of all three. Take it easy, and take a small bottle of water with you.

  8. When i use to run cross-country without training i would always feel sick afterwards.

It is a combination of the lactic acid building up in your system, and the dehydration. Try to drink alot in the morning before you run, but not within an hour before you run.. because it will just bounce around as you run.

With gradual training your fitness will get better. Don't push yourself too hard, otherwise you will be sick
