  1. ice crystals in clouds hit each other and transfer electrons around so that the bottom of the cloud gets negatively charged mean while on the ground electrons are moving  away from the surface as the charges build up high enough electrons jump from the cloud to the ground through the air and turns the nearby air into a plasma producing the flash and the thunder is caused by the extreme heat that makes the air expand so fast it creates a shockwave.

  2. i think thuder is the sound when clouds are moving close to each other and lightning is the static from the clounds moving.

i am not entirely sure if this is correct though.

  3. Lightning is a huge static discharge. It is so hot it rivels the heat of the sun. This heats the air so hot that it expands like an explosion.

  4. Lightning is an electrical discharge within a massive cloud, called a Cumulonimbus. Please do some research on this subject to find some explanations that suit your understanding. Electrical discharge can be difficult to explain without digging deep.

    Thunder is easy, though -

Thunder is merely the sound of lightning. The speed of light is instant, the speed of sound is slower, therefore the quicker the sound of the lightning (which is thunder) happens after the flash of lightning iteself, the closer that particular lightning strike was to you.

Think about fireworks- hen you watch them, do you not see the explosion and then a second or two later hear the explosion? And if you are far away from the fireworks, the sound is not in correlation to the explosion at all.

This is in layman terms. I hope I provided some help. I didn't want you to spend another day thinking that thunder is the sound of clouds colliding, or airmasses colliding......
