Thwack Czech International: Kirsty Gilmour stuns Sashina Vignes Waran to win Women’s Singles crown
Scotland’s emerging player Kirsty Gilmour proved her mettle in the arena as she claimed Women’s Singles crown after putting up stunning performance against Sashina Vignes Waran of France in the final battle of Thwack Czech International 2012 on Sunday, September
30, in Czech Republic.
The in-form Kirsty, who was the seventh seed in main draw in the championship, continued her giant killing run on court and overpowered Sashina who was the fourth seeded player in Women’s Singles draw.
Kirsty was at her best when she displayed her remarkable skills on court and put up spectacular show to wrap up victory by finishing up the final battle in three games with a comfortable margin in 55 minutes.
The higher ranked Sashina, on the other hand, was unable to show her brilliance as she faced a severe treatment from her rival and ultimately went down against Kirsty in rubber games without proving her worth.
It was a fantastic battle between both shuttlers as they employed all of their reserves in first game but none of them could take a comfortable lead until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, it was Kirsty who started to change things around by playing positive and fast badminton which helped her to take the first game with a reasonable difference of 21-18.
In the following set, Sashina unleashed her powerful smashes and occupied the driving seat from opening points. She was in a comfortable position until the end of first half.
Kirsty tried to show a strong resistance after the break by playing attacking badminton but she failed to remain focused and lost the set with a one-sided 10-21 score on the board.
In the decider, Kirsty showed her fabulous skills by playing fast and parallel shots which helped her to push her rival on back foot until the end of first half.
After the break, the lower ranked Scottish shuttler continued delivering her gutsy performance without showing any mercy to Sashina and won the set with a crushing margin of 21-13.
Kirsty emerged as the title winner as she defeated Sashina in final contest of the event with an interesting 21-18, 10-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
