Ti Chen eases past Mao-Xin into the third round – Beijing International Challengers 2011
Ti Chen of Chinese Taipei thrashed out Chinese tennis pro Mao Xin Gong 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday to advance into the third round of 2011 Beijing International Challengers tournament here in Beijing, China.
Chen looked in great form in his third round match at the hard courts tournament and he took one hour and 43 minutes dispatching the rival in his fro his straight sets victory. Gong had a solid start to the match as he timed his
shots to perfection early on. However as the match progressed his shine faded away and he let his opponent clinch an easy victory at the end.
Chen made a rusty start to the match as he struggled to get to his opponent’s fierce forehand and backhand winners early in the opening set. After the 27-year-old conceded a break of serve, he trailed 4-2 in the game score. Lifting
his spirits, Chen regrouped himself and paid more attention to his game play. Breaking back in eight game of the set, he managed to even the game score at 4-4. Converting his second break chance of the set, the Chinese Taipei earned a tricky 6-5 lead, serving
for the set.
Firing a blistering serve ace, Chen pocketed the opener to take the set score lead 1-0.
The second set also followed similar patterns as Chen was able to get the better of his opponent whenever the contestants competed for a big point. His supreme agility combined with hard hitting proved to be decisive factor in
his victory. Breaking his opponent twice in the second set as well, he raced to a 5-1 lead, needing a game to close out the match. However, in his dying moments, Gong stepped up and broke back once to reduce Chen’s lead to 5-3. Gong fought brilliantly but
he failed to stop Chen from earning a well deserved victory.
Hitting an impressive 64 first serve, Chen took control of points on his serve and then placed his gorgeous forehand and backhand shots all over the court. He will be looking to maintain good form his upcoming matches at the tournament
as well.
