Question:

TiVo Questions?

I currently have Time Warner Cable and an Explorer 8300HDC DVR hooked up to an HDTV. I am very unsatisfied with the performance of the DVR, as it sometimes fails to record programs, or I see that it is recording something, but it doesn't save it. I'm looking at a TiVo. What I'm wondering is whether it is worth it to switch to TiVo. The price really isn't an issue, I'm more focused on reliability and quality. I'm satisfied with picture quality with my current setup, will the TiVo be better/worse (I use HDMI)? I know that it doesn't work with On Demand, and that's fine, I never use it. I love the online features and the ability to transfer to a computer. Does anyone have personal experience/advice? Thanks.

  1. TiVo is much better than my mom's COX cable DVR.

You can set up key word wish lists to find (and autorecord if desired) programs such as football and your favorite team or a favorite actor.

When I got mine, the cable guy indicated that the cable cards don't always work, but hooked it up anyway.  Every now and then I have a problem where the cable card doesn't decode right - but it is few and far between.  Changing channels and going back normally fixes this - but you can't do that when your not home and it is recording something for you.

TiVo is the one thing I might go into debt for if I ever need to replace mine.

  2. TiVo works really well. You should switch because it is better than what you have.

    Hope that helps!
