Tia Hellebaut intends to make a comeback for hitting 2m mark at the 2012 London Olympics
Tia Hellebaut, the 33-year old heptathlete, who later on went for specialising in high jump, has decided to restart her professional career all over again. The Belgian athlete is now eyeing to mark her dominance in the London Olympics that are going to be
organised next year.
Hellebaut, the veteran athlete, has got all the confidence and potential to materialise her aims, as she still holds the national records in heptathlon, indoor pentathlon and high jump, both in outdoors and indoors for Belgium. She made the announcement
of her return to athletics in Brussels.
Besides her other remarkable achievements, the most formidable performance she marked was back in 2008, when she left her spectators surprised by outdoing Blanka Vlasic, to end her winning streak of 34 contests. She had decided to quit the game after the
birth of her first daughter, but later on, went on deciding to continue her game after the birth of her second daughter back in February.
Hellebaut has decided to resume her sports career after a hiatus of a few months and she is all set to regain her previous form with the help of the toiling efforts which she is putting in for her training. While addressing the media and sharing her ambitions,
the Belgian said, “It is my ultimate goal to jump over two meters again at the London Olympic Games. I don’t want to talk about medals or placings, because that depends on the general level of the competition.”
Talking about the way she carried her resolve to bounce back in the game, Hellebaut added, “From the first moment I knew I was pregnant again I was convinced that I wanted to come back into the sports. I learned lessons from my first comeback. This time
we hired a nanny from the very first day that I resumed training two months ago.”
She concluded her remarks by saying that presently the focus of her training was to improve her general conditioning, as starting up with the high jump training too early could also lead to some inevitable risks.
