Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei excel in Women’s Doubles – Indonesia Open 2013
China’s prime Women’s Doubles team of Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei continued its successful run in the Djarum Indonesia Open and marched into semi-final round on Friday, June 14, 2013.
This quarter-final tussle kept them busy for 59 minutes against the Japanese duo Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi. The local badminton arena of Jakarta was full of badminton lovers who stayed glued to their chairs
till the final result of 21-16, 15-21 and 21-19.
The victorious pair prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas the twosome of Misaki and Ayaka could rise only in the second set.
In first set of the match, Tian and Zhao forged a fruitful chemistry and established an unassailable lead immediately in the beginning. They capitalised that advantage in the next couple of rallies and placed
a decent total.
Both Chinese campaigners did not show any confusion and their supreme coordination helped them to finish first half of the set with a respectable score.
After the mid-game break, they added few more points in their total and widened the gap on the points table. This five-point lead proved to be a decisive factor, as they swept the table with 21-16 margin.
However, the following game was completely dominated by the opposing team, as both Japanese shuttlers joined hands and turned their rivals’ plans of straight-set victory into dust. This time they employed an
effective counterattack strategy and kept their competitors under control.
At first, they dominated few back-to-back rallies and registered a favourable total. They did not break this flow and amazed everyone by reaching a convincing figure of 11 before interval. After the one-minute
break, they displayed unbeatable craft on the court and placed a winning margin of 21-15.
The decider proved to be a tough trial of their mental and physical fitness as it kept swinging between them all the way to the game point situation. Both pairs made every effort to trounce the opponent but neither
of them could enjoy a permanent lead.
Initially, the partnership of Misaki and Ayaka flourished but then the higher ranked duo of Tian-Zhao struck hard and tipped the scale in its favour. Both Women’s Doubles experts raised hands as victors after
putting a decisive figure of 21-19.
