China’s prime duo Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei remained invincible in Li Ning Singapore Open and claimed Women’s Doubles crown on Sunday, June 23, 2013.
This grand finale put them against Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi of Japan and both teams displayed commendable badminton skills throughout this 48-minute tussle. Though, the Chinese pair managed to wrap this showdown in just two games but still both female
shuttlers had to sweat hard to get a favourable result of 21-19 and 21-16.
The luck was not on Japan’s side as its both campaigners had to surrender despite of putting an honest effort in the title match of this prestigious event.
In first set of the match, Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei laid foundation of their supremacy by prevailing in the establishing rallies. They pocketed few back-to-back points and piled up a decent total in no time.
This initial lead helped them in next couple of rallies and they kept the opposing shuttlers at a lower end. They did not lose focus even for a single second and wrapped first half of the set with scoreboard flashing a mountainous figure of 11 in their favour.
After the mid-game break, they had to face a strong resistance from the Japanese team. The twosome of Misaki and Ayaka stormed back with a strong reply and caught their rivals on the points table.
They matched their competitors’ skills in all areas of the game and stood toe-to-toe all the way to game point situation.
Finally, this cliff-hanging set came to an end when Tian and Zhao registered a winning margin of 21-19. This timely win boosted their confidence and they played with even more precision in the following game.
Women’s Doubles experts Tian and Zhao started the beating from very first stroke and kept on playing with an authoritative approach all the way to final moments. They relished full benefits of their dominance and placed a respectable total of 11 before interval.
After the one-minute break, both pairs pushed each other in all areas of the court but the Chinese team locked the honour y showing better finishing skills. Tian and Zhao put a concluding score of 21-16 and earned the right to be on top of victory stand.
