Tian Qing – Zhao Yunlei bag Women’s Doubles gold medal at 2012 London Olympics
China’s talented shuttler Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei showed their tremendous class and clinched Women’s Doubles gold medal after beating Japan’s Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa in the title match at the 2012 London Olympics on Saturday, August 4, at Wembley
Arena, London.
The World Number Two Qing and Zhao, who were second seeds in the tournament, showed their supremacy on court and remained successful in taking the match against the World Number Five and fourth seeds Mizuki and Reika in a decent fashion.
Qing and Zhao were impressive in the opening set and they did not take much time in finishing it off. However, they had to put in extra effort in the following game and won it with a tight margin to end up the battle in straight games.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Mizuki and Reika played quivering badminton in the first game but they showed a tremendous show in the following set and stretched their higher ranked Chinese rivals to the limit.
However, the Japanese shuttlers failed to prove their worth in the ending points and lost the match with a decent score.
In the first game of this title match, Qing and Zhao showed a great performance as they showed a spirited display of top quality badminton and took a remarkable lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the second seeded Qing and Zhao continued showing their remarkable run on court as they did not lose their focus and also maintained a huge difference on score board.
The impressive Qing and Zhao easily ended up the opening game in a commanding fashion with a tremendous 21-10 score on the board.
In the following set, the lower ranked Japanese shuttlers put up wonderful show as they did not let their Chinese challengers to set up lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Qing and Zhao tried their best but failed to take even a small lead on score board until the score reached at 23-23.
At this crucial stage, the Chinese shuttlers played attacking badminton and scored two consecutive points to end up the game with a dramatic score of 25-23.
The in-form Qing and Zhao became Olympic Champion in Women’s Doubles category by ending up the final battle with a 21-10 and 25-23 score on the board.
