Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei grab Women’s Doubles crown at Hong Kong Open 2012 – Badminton news
China’s World Number One players Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei proved that they deserve the top place as they played top quality badminton and claimed Women’s Doubles crown at Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2012 on Sunday, November 25.
In the title match, Qing and Yunlei had to work extra hard in beating their lower ranked compatriots Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang (F) in a thrilling contest that took 73 minutes of nonstop action from both sides.
The top seeded Qing and Yunlei had to employ all of their skills to create pressure on their opponents and they remained successful in winning this final battle in three games with a narrow margin on the board.
On the other hand, World Number Six Xiaoli and Yang, who were the second seeds in the Women’s Singles main draw of the tournament, showed a great performance.
The lower ranked Xiaoli and Yang stayed close to their experienced team-mates all the way in the whole match but remained unlucky in the ending points of final set and lost the battle with a respectable margin.
Right from the opening points of first game, both sides employed all of their skills to put up strong show but they failed to build a comfortable lead at any stage and remained toe-to-toe until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, both pairs continued playing powerful shots in all areas of the court and tried their best to create pressure.
In their thrilling fight, the score reached at the crucial stage of 20-20 when Qing and Yunlei played a few fabulous shots and took the game with a margin of 22-20.
In the second game, the second seeded Xiaoli and Yang took over the control from their compatriots by playing positive and controlled badminton. They were in good position until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Qing and Yunlei tried their best but failed to reduce the deficit on the board and eventually lost the set with a 14-21 score on the board.
In the final game, the top seeded Qing and Yunlei played positive badminton while remaining focused. They dominated the pace of rallies in the ending points of second game and took it with a score of 21-17.
The lofty Qing and Yunlei emerged as the winner in Hong Kong Open as they ended up the final battle with a thrilling 22-20, 14-21 and 21-17 score on the board.
