Tick over on transit van

my transit van wont tick over untill it

wams up then its fine whats wrong it ok

afrter driving about 500 yards

you dont say how old the van is or what engine ???

your van has a thing called a cold start mechanism on it. this works the same way as the choke on a petrol engine, it allows more fuel through etc etc until the engine heats up. this will either be knackered or needing some adjustment, if you dont know what you're doing have a mechanic look at it. it will only get worse until its fixed by the way and will end up with very poor starting, especially in winter months. hope this helps and good luck
