We drove on Highway 10 on a weekend. We saw that there was a police car which was flashing on the shoulder of the route. We were trying to change right lane to left lane, but very dangerous. So we failed to change. Then, the police got down his car and pull us over. The offence was as moving into emergency lane. For this case, the officer gave us the fine as $490. Is that so much? Is the fine varity?

  1. I'm not sure what province you are in. In Ontario, the first conviction for this offence is a fine between $400 and $2000. You may also have your licence suspended for up to two years.

When passing a stopped emergency vehicle, moving into the left lane (where available) is required unless it is unsafe to do so. You are also required to slow down and proceed with caution.

  2. no that isn't to much because they are trying to get to an emergency, and you are blocking them, even if you couldn't get over the law still blames you :( but it all depends on the cops mood it sounds like you were unlucky.
