I went on the wrong side of the road because i was just lazy to take a U turn and it was my own stupid mistake.

Now what do I do. This is my first ticket. Here is what i have been told:-

1)Pay the fine and go to traffic school

2)Go to court and plead guilt(I heard they redue the fine-but i dont believe it)

3)Plead not guilty and keep asking for continuances and the cop wont show up

What do you recommend and does the judge really lower the fine for just showing up in court and pleading guilty?

  1. Go to court and ask to speak with the judge and be truthful and ask if it is possible for you to take a defensive driving course, 90% of the time this will be granted and yes the fine will be reduced, dress nice and speak when you are spoken to........

  2. Well, first of all, this ticket wasn't ABOUT YOU! It was about the safety of other drivers and pedestrians. That's WHY you got a fine in the first place, right? Imagine that you are driving around a corner, and suddenly a vehicle hits you coming down the wrong side of the road. You would be very self-righteious is such a situation. Oh by the way, it's illegal to make a u-turn at a traffic light, and you may only do it at an intersection, when it's safe to do so, because you never have the right of way when making a U-turn.

If you are guilty, and you obviously ARE, be truthful and plead guilty in court. Be respectful of the court, dress in an appropriate manner (clean and crisp), use proper language and good posture as well as good manners, behave in a humble and remorseful manner, apologizing for your error in judgement and that this fine will be a learning experience for you with regard to the laws and Rules of the Road.

If you demonstrate "attitude" in a court of law, you won't win in any way, shape or form. They have more experience and have dealt with many people with "attitude" before, and you won't get anywhere at all.

  4. You answered your own question by saying you were lazy, stupid and a mistake.  What's the problem?  Is it so difficult to drive on the right side of the road?  If you can't even do that without difficulty especially when they have a big yellow line to show you a path, then don't drive after you pay the fine or forfeit your license to get out of it.  Please, for the sake of others that really don't want to put up with people that think they can be lazy and not follow simple driving rules to get from point a to point b.   Let someone else drive if you can't be focused or take it seriously.
