Ticks on my two dogs?

Ok, i've been using flea/tick treatment bought from walmart for the entire summer, and the ticks kept coming back after a weak or so (the treatment was suppose to last for a month)...

just 10 minutes ago, i finished bathing my two dogs again, after finding alot of tiny ticks on them...

I think i am going to use some of the better products, such as front line.

can anyone tell me where I might get the best deal to buy frontline products? my vet sells them, but it is very expensive...

and what will be the best product for me to treat my carpet?

  1. Frontline and Advantix are both the best to use.  I know they are expensive but I still get them from the Vet.  I haven't tried the places you can get them on line.  I;m not too sure I would trust them or not.  You might check them out.

The vet also has a spray that works great on the carpet.

  2. I went to the vet and she told me that frontline and all those other brands aren't working on the ticks anymore. They are basically immune to it now. I had the same problem with my dog. I kept finding them on her all day! They never went away. Anyway, the vet told me to try "Preventic Tick Collar". It's white and doesn't smell. You can buy it at a vet or you can buy it online at 1-800-PetMeds. It's like $15 and lasts 3 months. It can't get wet and when you put it on, it has to be close to the dogs skin. You are suppose to put witch hazel on the back side of it before you put it on too. It is suppose to make the ticks "drunk" and they fall off. I use it on her and I haven't seen any since! I put it on her and about an hour later I had a tick crawling on my arm! Eewww, I know but it works for her so I am happy with it! I haven't seen any since!

  3. A privately-owned pet store.

  4. I've bought Frontline from Petmeds.com, but my vet will let you purchase one treatment at a time so for two dogs it's about $30 a month.  It was just eaisier to pop into the vets office when I needed it.  We only treat during flea and tick season (May-Sept) for our area.  As far as the carpet is concerned there are powders for fleas but I don't know about ticks.

  5. Gasoline

  6. entirelypets.com has the best deal of frontline i know of. Also, just so you know, even products like frontline don't kill the ticks just for landing on the dog. They kill then when they imbed themseleves in the dog and drink their blood. So if you just see ticks crawling around on your dog, it doesn't necessarily mean the product isn't working. it'snot meant to repel ticks like it does for mosquitos - it will just keep them from imbedding into your pets coat and drinking their blood.

Also, you can't "treat" ticks. To kill ticks they have to be burned or have their heads cut off.

PS - Are you sure what you are finding on your dogs are actually "ticks"?

  7. Def go with frontline. It's lyme disease season and you don't want to risk it b/c this year is worse than most. You can buy frontline at Petco or PetSmart for about 60 bucks and it's worth it. I know it's pricey and it's be easier for the vet to prescribe it but they can't. Kinda like you can get a script for contacts but you actually have to buy the contacts from 1800contacts or the store, you know?

    Does this make sense?
