Tidal Bay, impressive in the Betfair Chase at Haydock
Haydock will host the Grade 1 Betfair Chase (Registered As The Lancashire Chase) on Saturday, 24th November, 2012 over three miles. Nineteen contestants who are five-year-old and above are in for taking back to the stable the lucrative prize money.
Nicky Henderson has secured his chances with the tile by entering Long Run, while not behind with his agenda is the champion trainer, Paul Nicholls, who has covered ground with Silviniaco Conti and Tidal Bay.
A highly surprising and pleasing entry in the race is the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained, Imperial Commander. He has not won a race since 2010, and has endured two injuries since then which have kept him away from the race tracks.
With Kauto Star retired, many have their eyes glued at the seven-year-old bay/brown gelding, Long Run. Cadoudal’s gelding had finished as the runner-up in the last edition of the race. The favourite entry ended second as the winner, Kauto Star, led in by eight lengths under jockey, Ruby Walsh.
In the most promising form is the Paul Nicholls trained, Tidal Bay.
The eleven-year-old bay gelding is unbeaten in the last two starts of the career.
He took off the season with a third position in the sportinglife.com Handicap Hurdle on 1st January, 2012 at Cheltenham race course over three miles. The first one over the twelve hurdles was, Houblon Des Obeaux, who had jockey, Aidan Coleman, onboard.
Flemensfirth’s bay gelding won the Grade 3 Bet365 Gold Cup Chase (Handicap) on 28th April, 2012 at Sandown race course over three miles and 5 ½ furlongs.
Making through the twenty-four fences under jockey, Daryl Jacob, was, Tidal Bay.
Making peace with the second position after missing the winner’s spot by fifteen lengths was, Roalco De Farges.
The Irish bay gelding then landed the Grade 2 John Smith’s Hurdle on 3rd November, 2012 at Wetherby race course over three miles and a furlong. This time his partner in success was jockey, Ruby Walsh, and the duo defeated Crack Away Jack by 4 ½ lengths.
The race is one of the most prestigious and also the sort that Tidal Bay’s trainer, Paul Nicholls, will never wish to miss.
