I am planning on doing my first tie blanket and I was wondering if there was any specific advice I should need to know. It is for a twin bed, so I was wondering what size fleece I should buy. I was also trying to personalize it as a gift for my best friend. Any advice and help will not be taken lightly so anything you want to say, please say it! 10 points for best answer! Please help!

  1. Measure a blanket that's the size you want your new one to be.  Add 12" to each measurement (length and width) to allow for the ties.  Making those about 6" long on each side is usually sufficient.  Take your adjusted measurements to the fabric store and ask to buy a piece of fleece as close to that size as they can sell you.  You may be limited by the width, however.  I think fleece only comes in 60" widths as a general rule.  You may be able to find 72" in a very limited selection of colors, but I'll warn you it's hard to locate.   If you want to piece it together to make it wide enough, feel free to email me for suggestions on how to do that.  Click on my avatar for an email link.

  2. This are only suggestions and I hope they help.

First in size - look at the size of a top sheet for a twin (you could go to kmart.com and look at sheets sets).  As for personalizing - Use your best friend's favorite color on one side and a print of you both shared (sewing, dancing, etc) or have enjoyed together (a football game, movie, etc). VogueFabric.com has alot of nice prints.  Take a permanent marker and sign and date it in a corner-before tie. Hope this helps -- Good Luck
