What is the best tie dye kit anyone has used.

I'm looking for something simple because its for younger children.

I only need enough die for 3 people.

  1. The best tie-dye kits are the ones made by Jacquard, Dylon, Rainbow Rock, or Tulip. They are safer and easier to use than Rit because they do not require boiling water. You do have to give the children plastic gloves to wear, and supervise them to make sure they do not drink the dye or drip it onto anything that will stain.

    If the children are too young to be safe with non-edible dyes, then you can buy 100% natural wool yarn or a 100% natural silk scarf and use food coloring to dye it. Kool-aid unsweetened drink powder is a handy source of dye. Unfortunately, food coloring does not work on cotton and will just wash out. You must heat-set the food coloring after the children apply it, either in a cooking pot or the microwave. See the links below for instructions.
