Question:

Tie into bathtub drainline?

I am adding a laundry room to an unfinished space right next to a bathroom and the plimbing for the abthtub backs right up to the wall I plan to put the washer and dryer against.

I have no trouble tieing the water supplies into the tub plumbing, but I am wondering if I need to do anything special with the drainline that is hooked up to the tub. I really don't want the washer drainage backing up ionto the tub - I just had it refinished - its an old clawfoot!

Also, the current drainline is the old metal pipe - do I interface this with new PVC (for the washer drain), and if so, how?

Thanks!

  1. It is recommended that the washer be connected to a 2 inch drain pipe. If you can connect somewhere past the tub connection it would work best. Be sure to use a p-trap below the floor. If you can run the tub and washer through a 2" PVC to the inlet into the bigger connection You should have no problems with any backing up.
