Tien Chen Chou beats Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series

Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou dashed the hopes of Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro by beating him in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, held in Jakarta, on June 21, 2011.
Tien Chen had to dig deep into his reserves to fetch some fascinating strokes to brush aside Sony, who has an extensive experience of playing at international level. The Chinese Taipei shuttler took 41 minutes to defeat the Indonesian, in a well fought straight-set
contest.
The opening set was a scintillating fight as both players remained toe-to-toe by playing high-quality badminton with great agility and power. Tien Chen was playing with aggression, whereas, Sony was dominating the game from the rear court.
Sony, who is currently ranked World Number 34, struggled hard to find gaps in his opponent’s court, as Tien Chen was playing to his full potential. Until the interval, the Chinese Taipei shuttler was ahead at 11-9.
After the break, Sony became quick at the net and started to employ attacking clears which put his rival in trouble, as Chou failed to find a good angle to hit the bird hard. The concluding phase of the match was very interesting as both players were tied
at 24-24.
Tien Chen played fascinating strokes from the rear court and clinched two successive points to close the set by a 26-24 margin, in 25 minutes.
The second game was easy for Tien Chen, as he sailed smoothly without facing any considerable trouble from his challenger. He was leading the match by an 11-8 margin until the interval of the set. After the break, he stretched the gap of points and finished
the second game in just 16 minutes, with a margin of 21-17.
Tien Chen emerged as the winner in the 41-minutes battle which ended in straight games with a margin of 26-24 and 21-17. In the next qualifying-round contest, Tien Chen Chou will play against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand, who crushed Indonesia’s
Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in the previous match.
