Tien Chen Chou ousts Anand Pawar in Men’s Singles qualifying round - 2011 Japan Open Super Series
Chinese Taipei’s young shuttler, Tien Chen Chou beat India’s Anand Pawar in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series. The Taipei shuttler defeated the Indian in three games by taking 66 minutes in the court. The encounter was
held on September 20, in Tokyo, Japan.
Chen Chou proved his worth by delivering a remarkable performance against Pawar, who is currently World Number 54 in the Men’s Singles category. The Indian was the second seed in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the Japan Open. However, he failed to
get rid of the Taipei shuttler and lost the battle after fighting hard for three sets.
The start of the opening set was interesting, as both players showed aggression with jumping smashes and spinning net shots. However, as the match progressed, the Taipei shuttler controlled the pace of the game and reached at 11-8 until the interval.
After the break, Chen Chou remained on the driving seat by playing positive badminton against the experienced Indian, who was committing unforced errors. The Taipei got an advantage in the match with his win in the first set by a 21-18 margin, in 20 minutes.
The second set was equally interesting to the previous game, as both players remained neck-to-neck in the opening half. However, it was Pawar who dominated the game this time by reaching 11-9. The Taipei shuttler levelled the score at 17-17, but he made
crucial a mistake which caused him to lose the second game with a 19-21 margin, in 21 minutes.
In the final game, the crowd could not have asked for a better performance from both shuttlers, as they remained close in the whole set. The score was 21-21 when Chen Chou played better badminton and made his mark over the Indian by winning the game with
a 23-21 margin in 25 minutes.
Chen Chou ended the fight after working hard for 66 minutes and he beat the Indian with a 21-18, 19-21 and 23-21 score on the board.
