Tien Chen Chou overpowers Arvind Bhat in Men’s Singles semi-final of Canada Open Grand Prix
Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou showed a gutsy performance on court and stormed into Men’s Singles final after beating India’s Arvind Bhat in an interesting semi-final final at the Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 on Saturday, July 14, at Richmond, Canada.
The second seeded Tien Chen, who displayed his impressive skills in all of his matches in Canada Open, remained consistent on court when he played aggressive badminton and overpowered his talented Indian opponent with a decent score.
The higher ranked Taipei shuttler worked really hard on court to send his Indian rival packing by ending up the clash in straight sets in just 39 minutes.
The fourth seeded Arvind, on the other hand, was impressive on court in both games but lost his focus in ending points and eventually crashed out at the semi-final stage without snatching any game from his higher ranked Taipei opponent.
In the opening set, both men played aggressive and composed game without dropping their speed and remained toe-to-toe until the score reached at 9-9.
The lower ranked Indian played attacking badminton at net and also executed powerful smashes in right areas which helped him to lead the score board by reaching at 11-9 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Arvind continued his inspiring play by taking the shots early from all corners and reached at 17-14 when Tien Chen showed his class and played flawless badminton.
The Taipei shuttler defied all odds and came from behind to snatch the first game with a superb 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game, the second seeded Tien Chen was in good control of rallies from opening points and managed an early lead against Arvind who could not maintain his speed on court.
Until the mid-game interval in second set of this semi-final clash, it was Tien Chen who managed a reasonable lead of 11-8.
After the break, Tien Chen continued his grip over the pace of rallies and eventually took the set with a huge 21-15 margin on the score board.
The higher ranked Tien Chen emerged as the winner of this interesting Men’s Singles encounter with a margin of 21-18 and 21-15.
