Men’s Singles shuttler Chou Tien Chen escorted Chinese Taipei to the quarter-finals of Yonex OCBC US Open GPG after stamping Joachim Person in the third round on July 4, 2012.
This epic 50-minute tussle prolonged to three exhausting sets before ending with final result 15-21, 21-13 and 21-15.
The victorious Taipei shuttler played with great precision and sealed a 2-1 win despite going down in the opening game of the match.
On the other hand, the Danish campaigner could not capitalise on his early advantage and surrendered in the last two segments of the match.
Joachim Persson, who was ranked 13 in this tournament, aroused the hopes of his supporters by winning the very first match point.
He displayed commendable fighting spirit as he was trailing behind until the first half but then turned the tables with a thundering performance in last part of the game.
In the beginning, Tien Chen gained an immediate lead by grabbing six consecutive points and relished this advantage all the way to mid-game break.
He finished the first half with a staggering total of 11-6 but second half saw the suppressed shuttler Joachim storming back into the contest.
The Dane stunned his higher ranked rival with nine points in a row and reached a dominating position of 17-12.
This five-point deficit proved a final blow for the Taipei campaigner as he could not rise until concluding figure of 15-21.
However, Tien Chen tipped the scale in his favour in very next game as he bagged the crucial set with huge difference of eight points in the final result.
This time he stayed focus and outclassed his challenger in all areas of the game. He set the ball rolling with four uninterrupted rallies after 1-3 and maintained this flow until 11-8 before the interval.
He unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes after one-minute break and pushed his competitor in the dark with an overwhelming margin of 21-13.
This was not end of his commendable show of skills as Tien Chen enthralled Joachim in the decider as well. He raised his hands as Champion after putting 21-15 score on the board.
Now his next challenge is to surpass Malaysian shuttler Chun Seang Tan to win a semi-final ticket of this Grand Prix Gold event.
