Tien Minh Nguyen claims a spot in final round of 2013 US Open GPG – Badminton News
Men’s Singles campaigner Tien Minh Nguyen of Vietnam stretched his winning streak in Yonex OCBC US Open GPG and marched into final round on Friday, July 12, 2013.
He locked horns with a lower ranked but talented Japanese shuttler Kento Momota who stood tall in the arena throughout this 30-minute tussle. The third seeded Tien Minh relished full benefits of his supremacy and wrapped this showdown
with a straight-set win.
He played aggressive badminton in the opening game and registered a concluding figure of 21-12. He did not break this flow and sealed his splendid victory with 21-8 score in second set. With this advancement, Tien Minh setup his
title match with Wing Ki Wong of Hong Kong.
In the semi-final round, the Vietnamese played looked in prime touch as he established a strong grip over game straight from the beginning. He prevailed in some consecutive rallies and piled up a decent total in no time.
At the half time, Tien Minh was ahead of his rival on the points table and that figure of 11 helped him to keep the opposing shuttler at lower end in latter part of the game. He continued with same flow in the second half and widened
the gap on points table.
Tien Minh did not give the Japanese shuttler even a single chance to proceed and cast him away with a striking knock of 21-12.
The second set of match proved a one-sided affair as the Vietnamese player ruled the court from very first stroke till the last one. Tien Minh started the beating in establishing rallies and confined his opponent in the rear court.
He did not show mercy at any stage of the game and finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11. After the mid-game break, Tien Minh confounded Kento Momota with a flurry of power packed strokes and bagged many
valuable points in a row.
He kept on moving forward on points table at a steady pace and cruised to victory with an impressive score of 21-8.
Now he will resume his campaign in final round of 2013 US Open GP Gold.
