Tien Minh Nguyen claims spot in round of eight in Singapore Open – Badminton news
Vietnam’s prime male shuttler Tien Minh Nguyen stretched his winning streak in Li Ning Singapore Open and marched into the quarter-final round on Thursday, June 20, 2013.
This Men’s Singles pre quarter-finals put him against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand and their meeting lasted for 52 minutes. Although the Vietnamese campaigner lost the first set 17-21, yet he managed to finish ending two games with favourable figures
of 21-5 and 21-13.
The opening game started with Tanongsak unleashing a flurry of productive strokes and establishing an immediate advantage. He did not lose focus in next couple of rallies and doubled his total in no time.
At the half time, the Thai player was in commanding position with a respectable figure of 11. He relished full benefits of this advantage in latter part of the game. At first, he mounted pressure with few back-to-back productive rallies and then strengthened
his grip in third quarter of the set.
Tanongsak did not make any mistake in the final moments and wrapped this segment of the showdown with an impressive result of 21-17.
However, it was end of road for the Thai shuttler as the experienced Tien Minh stormed back with a strong reply and swept the table in second set of match. This time the Vietnamese campaigner played with great precision and ruled the court from very stroke
until the last shot was played.
In first half of the set, Tien Minh launched an intensive attack and confined his challenger in the rear court. He did not allow his rival to proceed on the points table and placed a decent total of 11.
He carried this flow even after the mid-game break and won this crucial set with an overwhelming score of 21-5.
This timely win boosted his confidence and he displayed a flawless badminton craft in the decider. Third set started with Tien Minh claiming many valuable points in a row. He capitalised this lead in remaining part of the tussle and sealed a splendid victory
with 21-13 margin.
Now his next challenger will be Marc Zwiebler in quarter-finals of Singapore Open.
